What is NotePlan?

NotePlan keeps opening its notebook to outside writers: plugins, MCP agents, now Apple Reminders.

Two product lines ship in parallel. Memo AI reaches 1.3 with redesigned summaries carrying richer formatting, speaker labels for conversations, iCloud sync across devices and font themes — the first release to make a recording's transcript legible as a conversation rather than a block of text. On the main app, 3.21.2 remains the most recent, adding a two-way Apple Reminders integration via @remind, Space backups with restore, and calendar boards grouped by time frame.

What is Tracecat?

Tracecat hits 1.0 RC with open-source agent presets, agent-case @mentions, and 20+ new security integrations.

Tracecat is in 1.0 release candidate territory, with RC.1 and RC.2 landing in quick succession. The platform has fundamentally expanded its case management system: agents can now be invoked from case comment @mentions, record their mutations back to cases, and have their runs filtered and linked to specific cases. The MCP catalog, agent presets, and skills were open-sourced in RC.1. The integration catalog grew by 20+ providers in beta.52 — Rippling, Jamf, Microsoft Graph, Databricks, Snowflake, Recorded Future, and others. RC.2 adds SSRF blocking for MCP and LLM requests and AWS role chaining.

NotePlan vs Tracecat: editorial side-by-side

N5.0

NotePlan keeps opening its notebook to outside writers: plugins, MCP agents, now Apple Reminders.

◆ Current state

Two product lines ship in parallel. Memo AI reaches 1.3 with redesigned summaries carrying richer formatting, speaker labels for conversations, iCloud sync across devices and font themes — the first release to make a recording's transcript legible as a conversation rather than a block of text. On the main app, 3.21.2 remains the most recent, adding a two-way Apple Reminders integration via @remind, Space backups with restore, and calendar boards grouped by time frame.

◆ Where it's heading

The through-line is turning NotePlan into a surface other software writes into rather than a closed notebook: plugins became installable and then opened to the community, the MCP server gave agents write access to notes and tasks, and Apple Reminders now writes back rather than only feeding in. Memo AI is following its own arc in parallel — first capture anywhere, via Watch and CarPlay, then capture efficiently, via the smaller audio format, and now capture legibly, via speaker labels and structured summaries. iCloud sync is the piece that makes the two lines share a device story.

◆ Prediction

Expect Memo AI's speaker labels to become something the main app can act on — assigning tasks by speaker is the obvious next step given the @remind work — and the Reminders integration to leave beta. The plugin and MCP surfaces are where third-party capability keeps arriving.

T7.5

Tracecat hits 1.0 RC with open-source agent presets, agent-case @mentions, and 20+ new security integrations.

◆ Current state

◆ Where it's heading

Tracecat is building toward a security automation platform where agents are primary workflow participants, not external integrations. The agent@mention model in case comments, combined with open-sourcing the MCP catalog for community contributions, signals a bet on collaborative human-agent case investigation rather than just automated runbooks. Dropping pydantic-ai in beta.52 in favor of a custom durable runtime reflects a commitment to owning the agent execution stack — the kind of choice that enables the SSRF blocking and error classification work shipping in parallel.

◆ Prediction

The 1.0 stable release will ship shortly and will lead with the agent-case interaction model as the headline capability. Post-stable, watch for expansion of the open-source MCP catalog driven by community contributions and a push around the enterprise entitlement and SCIM system for larger SOC teams.
