What is Pigment?

Pigment's agent push has paused while the planning surface around it gets systematized.

Pigment's recent releases split into two streams. The agent stream peaked in late July when Agents moved to the homepage and began working across multiple Applications in a single conversation. Everything since has been platform craft: chart formatting and readability, View Templates, live deployment progress, metric difference detection, and Metric data kept in sync across environments. Three newer undated entries continue that pattern with per-series chart control, wider View Template options, and a centralized usage overview spanning Workspaces.

What is FreeAgent?

FreeAgent is expanding beyond freelancers into landlord-specific accounting with automated rental statement processing.

FreeAgent has spent the past year layering Making Tax Digital compliance tooling—early access in September 2025, practice management tools in December, Self Assessment filing for 2025/26 in April 2026. Alongside that compliance track, it shipped a Pleo expense management integration and Fathom analytics connector to round out the financial workflow. The June 2026 launch of FreeAgent for Landlords marks the first deliberate product segment expansion beyond its core freelancer and small-business base.

2.5

Pigment's agent push has paused while the planning surface around it gets systematized.

◆ Current state

Pigment's recent releases split into two streams. The agent stream peaked in late July when Agents moved to the homepage and began working across multiple Applications in a single conversation. Everything since has been platform craft: chart formatting and readability, View Templates, live deployment progress, metric difference detection, and Metric data kept in sync across environments. Three newer undated entries continue that pattern with per-series chart control, wider View Template options, and a centralized usage overview spanning Workspaces.

◆ Where it's heading

Agent capability has slowed while the surrounding model surface is being made consistent. Templates are becoming the unit of that consistency, with a Simple View Template now settable as the default for all new Views in an Application and duplicable across Applications. Environment management is maturing in parallel through deployment progress and connected Metric data that travels with a deployment and cannot be edited downstream. The new Workspace usage overview points somewhere different again, at administrators of multi-workspace estates who need cells, AI credits and storage in one view.

◆ Prediction

Expect the usage overview to grow from warnings into capacity administration, since the limits it reports against already exist. The agent stream is the one to watch for a resumption, and the open question the cross-Application work raised is governance over what an agent may reach.

FreeAgent is expanding beyond freelancers into landlord-specific accounting with automated rental statement processing.

◆ Current state

FreeAgent has spent the past year layering Making Tax Digital compliance tooling—early access in September 2025, practice management tools in December, Self Assessment filing for 2025/26 in April 2026. Alongside that compliance track, it shipped a Pleo expense management integration and Fathom analytics connector to round out the financial workflow. The June 2026 launch of FreeAgent for Landlords marks the first deliberate product segment expansion beyond its core freelancer and small-business base.

◆ Where it's heading

FreeAgent is running two parallel tracks: deepening UK tax compliance (MTD, CIS, Self Assessment) for existing users, and opening a new market segment with a purpose-built landlord product. Automated rental statement parsing—categorising letting agent statements into structured entries—is the technical differentiator for the landlord track, not just a UI rename. If the landlord product gains traction, FreeAgent's distribution through NatWest's SME banking network becomes a significant acquisition channel.

◆ Prediction

The next move is likely native HMRC MTD for Property Income submission from within the landlord product, closing the end-to-end compliance loop for landlord customers who currently need a separate tool to file.
