What is Moov?

Moov keeps closing the gap between what its API can do and what the Dashboard exposes.

Moov is a payments platform shipping on a versioned API train, currently with v2026.10.00 in preview and v2026.07.00 recently landed. The last two months added FedNow alongside RTP for instant bank credits, surcharging, payout fees that merchants can pass to recipients, user-defined amounts on payment links, and custom Dashboard roles. The consistent shape of a release is an API capability followed weeks later by the Dashboard surface for it.

What is LNbits?

LNbits v1.6.0 replaces Python extension security reviews with WASM sandboxing — a new distribution model for Lightning tools.

LNbits v1.6.0 shipped WASM extensions: sandboxed plugins that can be written and shared without requiring core-developer security review, directly addressing the bottleneck that limited ecosystem growth. Lightning Addresses moved from extension territory into core, and the block explorer via Electrum and Bark (barkd) funding source added new infrastructure options. v1.6.1 followed with phoenixd node page, NWC false-failure fixes, and payments CSV comment export — iterative polish on the 1.6.0 surface.

FINANCE
5.0

Moov keeps closing the gap between what its API can do and what the Dashboard exposes.

◆ Current state

Moov is a payments platform shipping on a versioned API train, currently with v2026.10.00 in preview and v2026.07.00 recently landed. The last two months added FedNow alongside RTP for instant bank credits, surcharging, payout fees that merchants can pass to recipients, user-defined amounts on payment links, and custom Dashboard roles. The consistent shape of a release is an API capability followed weeks later by the Dashboard surface for it.

◆ Where it's heading

Two threads run in parallel. One is fee mechanics — surcharging, tax moved into amountDetails, payout fees, and now fee plan reassignment — steadily giving platforms more control over who pays what and when they agree to it. The other is self-service: pricing disclosure in the onboarding Drop, resumable onboarding, custom roles, and richer partner onboarding all reduce the number of moments a customer has to talk to Moov support. Both point at Moov being operated by platforms embedding payments rather than by merchants directly.

◆ Prediction

Fee plan agreement updates are still in-development on v2026.10.00, so expect that to reach general availability along with the Dashboard controls to match. The recurring gap between an API capability and its Dashboard equivalent suggests the next Dashboard releases will pick up fee plan management.

6.3

LNbits v1.6.0 replaces Python extension security reviews with WASM sandboxing — a new distribution model for Lightning tools.

◆ Current state

LNbits v1.6.0 shipped WASM extensions: sandboxed plugins that can be written and shared without requiring core-developer security review, directly addressing the bottleneck that limited ecosystem growth. Lightning Addresses moved from extension territory into core, and the block explorer via Electrum and Bark (barkd) funding source added new infrastructure options. v1.6.1 followed with phoenixd node page, NWC false-failure fixes, and payments CSV comment export — iterative polish on the 1.6.0 surface.

◆ Where it's heading

The WASM extension model shifts security isolation from audit-based to runtime-sandbox-based, which should increase the throughput of the extension ecosystem considerably. Lightning Addresses as a core feature signals LNbits is moving toward being a complete Lightning wallet experience rather than just a developer toolkit. The multi-backend funding source expansion (Bark, Blink, phoenixd, LND gRPC self-payments) suggests LNbits is building toward being backend-agnostic across the Lightning node ecosystem.

◆ Prediction

WASM extension tooling will mature next — documentation, the vetted extension repository growing, and possibly browser-based WASM development support. Phoenixd's deepening integration (node page, preimage returns, mnemonic display) hints at a tighter mobile Lightning node story ahead.
