COMMS
Velocity5.0

Secure collaboration platform with end-to-end encryption for messaging, calls, and file sharing in business teams.

Calling is the one surface Wire's web client touches in every documented release.

Current state
Wire's web app ships production tags every one to three weeks. Four of the last six carry real upstream release notes and two are bare tags with no GitHub release behind them at all; a third reached our feed looking bare only because Wire published the notes upstream three days after cutting the tag. The documented work concentrates on calling - audio processing, background effects, session recovery - with Files and Shared Drives as the secondary thread.
Where it's heading
Two threads run through the releases that document themselves. Calling is being hardened rather than widened: enhanced audio processing and WebSocket recovery were flipped on by default in early July, background effects were then chased for performance under system load through late July, and in the August release they land inside calls proper. The second thread is file collaboration, where Shared Drives gained filtering and sorting in late July. August adds a narrower third: a user-facing recovery path for Proteus decryption failures, which is encryption plumbing surfacing as something a person can act on.
Prediction
The next documented release most likely continues on calling reliability or extends the background-effects work. Nothing in these entries points to a new surface opening.

Background effects in calls; Proteus session reset recovery

The first release to put background effects inside calls rather than fixing them around the edges, closing the arc that ran through July's performance work. It also gives people hit by the Proteus decryption issue a reset-session recovery of their own, the first time that failure mode becomes a user action rather than a support case.

Production tag with no upstream release

A production tag with no GitHub release behind it - the deployment is undocumented at source, not merely missing from the feed. It is one of the two genuinely bare tags in the current window.

Filter and sort in Shared Drives; call effects fixes

Filtering and sorting arrived for Shared Drives and Files, the most concrete addition to the file surface in this window. The rest is background-effects cleanup - self-view, camera refresh, processing under high system load - which is the work that made the August release's in-call effects possible.

Call quality and app lock configuration improvements

Calling reliability again - 1:1 video quality and WebSocket reconnection - alongside app lock and privacy configuration. Incremental hardening of the same two surfaces the rest of the window works on.

Production tag with no upstream release

A production tag with no GitHub release behind it. Undocumented upstream, so what shipped in this deployment is not recoverable from the record.

Call audio processing and WebSocket recovery on by default

The release that made enhanced call audio processing and WebSocket recovery default rather than optional, setting the pattern the later releases follow: turn calling behaviour on for everyone, then spend the following releases making it hold up. Search and profile-privacy work rides along.
