Secure Matrix-based team messaging and collaboration client

Element Web widens its module API while overhauling the room list and dropping older Linux platforms.

Current state
Element Web is actively refactoring two things simultaneously: a MVVM-based timeline architecture and a rebuilt room list with persistent sections, drag behavior, and a dedicated Invites area. The Module API has expanded notably across recent releases — URL preview override, user verification CAs, storage helpers, widget toggles — signaling a push toward enterprise deployability rather than just feature shipping. Custom user status and call-presence indicators are now live, adding contextual presence signals the client lacked before.
Where it's heading
The pattern across these releases is dual-track: steady internal architecture cleanup (MVVM timeline phases, room list polish) running in parallel with a deliberate extensibility buildout (growing Module API, Docker module image). Element is positioning itself as a customizable, operator-deployed platform — the module surface expansion points at enterprise and white-label deployers, not consumer users. The glibc 2.35 floor drop in the upcoming v1.12.28 is a platform cut that trades breadth for maintainability.
Prediction
Stable v1.12.28 ships with the glibc 2.35 requirement enforced; the Module API surface continues to grow as the team onboards enterprise deployers who need custom integrations beyond what the default build offers.

Element v1.12.28-rc.1: glibc floor raised, Module API and room list expanded

This release candidate raises the glibc floor to 2.35, cutting off Debian bullseye and Ubuntu <22.04 permanently. It also adds a Module API for URL preview overrides and rounds out the room list with an Invites section and collapsible drag behavior — continuing the room list refinement thread running across the last several releases.

    v1.12.28-rc.0

First release candidate for v1.12.28, carrying the same feature set as rc.1; the subsequent rc.1 supersedes it with minor fixes.
