Storyboarding and video pre-production tool for creative teams with animatics and client review

Boords now owns the full script-to-storyboard workflow — and that changes what it competes with.

Current state
Boords has expanded from a storyboard creation tool into a pre-production pipeline platform. Scripts now live inside Boords — written, reviewed, approved, and converted to storyboards without leaving the app. The Asset Library adds a shared image and AI-generated character database that teams can build and reuse across projects. These two additions in a single month represent a category shift, not a feature release.
Where it's heading
Boords is closing in on a full pre-production studio: script → storyboard → client review, all in one tool. The retention story — keeping video production teams inside Boords rather than splitting across Google Docs, Frame.io, and Dropbox — is getting stronger with each release. The next gap is the transition out of Boords and into production tools.
Prediction
Animatic or rough-cut timeline export from storyboards is the likely next release — the pipeline now goes from script in to reviewed storyboard out; closing the loop to rough-cut delivery would complete the pre-production surface and give Boords a clear handoff point to editors.

    Asset Library

    ⚡ SPARK

The Asset Library gives teams a shared, organized image database — populated by upload or by the AI Playground — that persists across projects. This is the infrastructure for visual consistency across a production company's work, and it extends Boords' competitive position from 'storyboarding tool' to 'visual production asset manager.'

    Script Editor

    ⚡ SPARK

Script Editor is the largest scope expansion in Boords' history. Writing the script, getting it reviewed and approved, then converting it directly into a storyboard — all without leaving the app — collapses a multi-tool workflow into one. This puts Boords in direct conversation with tools like Celtx and WriterDuet that have previously owned the script stage.

    Change Aspect Ratio

The ability to change a storyboard's aspect ratio after creation removes a significant practical constraint — previously, resizing for a different output format (16:9 → 9:16, or 1:1) required starting over. This is especially relevant for campaigns that repurpose content across channels.

    Real-Time Team Activity

Real-time presence indicators in the storyboard header show which teammates are currently viewing — a standard collaborative awareness feature that becomes more valuable as Boords' review workflows (client review, team review) generate more concurrent activity on shared documents.
