Open-source web conferencing system for online learning

BigBlueButton ships steady 3.0.x patches; v3.1 in beta.

Current state
BigBlueButton is on a tight 3.0.x patch cadence — v3.0.18 through v3.0.23 in roughly four months, plus a v3.1.0-beta.2 in October. Each patch carries security fixes, audio (LiveKit) improvements, and breakout-room work. The v3.0.18 hotfix was a direct response to a Chrome 143 screenshare regression, showing the project's responsiveness to upstream browser changes.
Where it's heading
The 3.0 line is in active stabilization mode while v3.1 cooks in beta — the canonical pattern for an open-source teaching/conferencing platform serving institutional installs. LiveKit is consolidating as the audio/WebRTC layer, and a new opt-in 'unified' layout signals the next major UX direction. The community contribution model is intact and visible in every release note.
Prediction
Expect v3.1.0 GA within the next two quarters, anchored by the unified layout and the LiveKit audio stack going from opt-in to default. Continued 3.0.x patches will keep landing in parallel for the long tail of institutional deployments that won't move quickly.

    v3.0.18: Chrome 143 tab-screenshare hotfix

v3.0.18 is a targeted fix for a Chrome 143 regression that broke browser-tab screenshare for presenters. The kind of upstream-browser-induced firefighting that defines maintaining a WebRTC platform.
