What is Tability?

Tability is wiring governance and write access around the AI agents it already shipped.

Tability is an OKR and strategy platform that spent 2026 turning a plan hierarchy into a queryable graph, then pointing agents at it. This batch is consolidation rather than new ground: workspace admins can now switch Agents off from MCP settings while preserving existing schedules, relationships and history; AI Mode gains write access to KPIs and KPI Views with explicit confirmation on destructive actions; scheduled prompts can read across plans, objectives, key results, initiatives, check-ins, members, agents and KPIs to produce formatted executive emails. Setup for delegated agents now hands you install instructions for Codex, ChatGPT or Claude Cowork.

What is OpenProject?

OpenProject's MCP Server gains write access — AI agents can now create tasks, add comments, and manage relations.

OpenProject 17.8.0 marks the most significant AI integration milestone in the product's history: the MCP Server can now create and update work packages, add comments, and manage relations — moving from a read-only query layer to a write-capable AI agent interface. The same release adds multiple target versions per work package, sprints and milestones to the project timeline, and relation display in the free Community edition. OpenProject 17.7.0 laid the organizational management foundation: departments, work-related user attributes, and individual work schedules for capacity planning.

Tability vs OpenProject: editorial side-by-side

T7.5

Tability is wiring governance and write access around the AI agents it already shipped.

◆ Current state

◆ Where it's heading

The agent track and the graph track have merged, and the work has shifted to the unglamorous half: permissions, confirmations, admin kill switches, and telling a human which agent needs attention and why. AI Mode is steadily converting modules from readable to writable - it took general workspace actions in May, the KPI module shipped in July, and it now writes KPIs too - so the pattern is that each new object type gets inspected first and edited a release or two later. Notifications now distinguish updates authored by an agent from those authored by a person, which is the kind of detail that only matters once agents are actually writing to the workspace.

◆ Prediction

Expect initiatives and check-ins to be the next objects AI Mode can write rather than only read, following the same inspect-then-edit pattern the KPI module just completed. The admin enable/disable switch also suggests per-role or per-team agent permissions rather than a single workspace-wide toggle.

O6.3

OpenProject's MCP Server gains write access — AI agents can now create tasks, add comments, and manage relations.

◆ Current state

OpenProject 17.8.0 marks the most significant AI integration milestone in the product's history: the MCP Server can now create and update work packages, add comments, and manage relations — moving from a read-only query layer to a write-capable AI agent interface. The same release adds multiple target versions per work package, sprints and milestones to the project timeline, and relation display in the free Community edition. OpenProject 17.7.0 laid the organizational management foundation: departments, work-related user attributes, and individual work schedules for capacity planning.

◆ Where it's heading

The two-track development pattern is clear: broader project management capabilities for enterprises (resource management, capacity planning, PM² methodology support) and a rapidly maturing AI interface through the MCP Server. The progression from read-only MCP to write-capable MCP is a qualitative shift — AI assistants become active project participants rather than passive query tools. The XWiki integration in 17.6.0 shows the platform also extending into enterprise knowledge management.

◆ Prediction

The logical next step is workflow automation via the MCP Server — AI agents that can trigger status transitions, query resource availability from the 17.7.0 capacity data, or auto-assign work packages based on department membership. The data model is in place; the automation layer is the missing piece.
